美国大学与学院的区别

　　美国的大学大体分3种：University,University-Master’s,College(Comprehensive,Liberal Arts College都算做college吧)。对于这三种US NEWS有明确解释：

　　National Universities：offer a wide range of undergraduate majors as well as master‘s and doctoral degrees; some emphasize research

　　Universities- Master’s：provide a full range of undergraduate and master‘s program

　　Comprehensive College：focus on undergraduate education and offer a range of degree programs-in the liberal arts, which account for fewer then half of their bachelor’s degrees, and in professional fields such as business, nursing, and education

　　Liberal Arts College：focus on undergraduate education and offer a range of degree programs-in the liberal arts(一字不差的摘录).

　　它们的最大区别就是，University主要提供本科，研究生，博士，University-Master‘s主要提供本科，研究生，College主要提供本科。

　　注意：主要这个词，因为随着这么多年来，学校的不断发展扩建，在college提供master已是普遍现象，也有很多college提供博士学位的。除了这些，这3类学校没太大差别，它们的排名可以说是并列的，也就是说第30的University，30的University-Master’s和30的College在quality上基本持平，前几的college在美国绝不压于Havard, Yale。

　　如果非要说college和university有差别，那大致就是物理条件的差别，通常college较小，学生少些，小班教学，十几二十人，能很容易得到professor的personal attention和指导，也很容易认识朋友，因为就那么些人，那么小校园，抬头不见低头见，同时，college更专精于某个领域，在那领域上的造诣可能远远超过很多universities,象CUNY的Baruch,整个学校就是business学院，business非常之强，有穷人哈佛之称;而university，动辄几百亩，偌大个校园，教学楼之间往返都是半天，大教室，一个教室几十上百来人非常平凡，professor不可能注意到每个人，要引起professor的注意，你必须得能在这一百多来号人里stand out，但是university通常比较综合，你可以从中学到很多你专业之外的东西，而且你如果在本校读的本或研的话，升本校的博也有相当照顾，还有就是在university，你可能会接触到研究的机会，不过在college，你也可以申请其他学校的研究机会。
